Sudeb Basu holds degrees in law and computer science. He developed a number of applications for the telecom, Internet, and aviation industries before obtaining his Juris Doctor degree from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where he was a staff member of the law review in his final year.
While in law school, Sudeb engaged in two judicial internships to learn more about how judges view legal proceedings. He was a law clerk intern with Judge Loren A. Smith at the United States Court of Federal Claims. Sudeb also interned in chambers at the Headquarters Immigration Court, where immigration judges preside over removal (deportation) proceedings. At both placements, Sudeb benefited from the opportunity to draft written opinions for judges.
Sudeb's presented a report on a survey of externship pedagogy in law schools, co-authored with Professor J.P. "Sandy" Ogilvy, at a plenary session of the Externships6 conference hosted by Northeastern University School of Law and Harvard Law School in March 2012.

Sudeb obtained his FAA private pilot's license in 1992, and later developed flight control software for an aircraft. He enjoys riding his touring motorcycle, and in 2009 completed the USA Four Corners Tour in 15 days.
